Synonymous to Baguio are the strawberries being sold at the Central Market in downtown. Jams, candies and fresh fruits are being sold here, on a cheap price unlike here in the malls of Manila. But where do they get these luscious temptations of red?

The town of La Trinidad is just 5-10 minutes away from downtown Baguio City. Being the capital of the province of Benguet and part of the urban sprawl of Cordilleras, it stands as the vegetable hub or bagsakan in Filipino. Here, they sell vegetable at farm price to the suppliers who would then sell it to the merchants of Manila and beyond. Veggies here are cheap too.

But when it comes to La Trinidad, it has been synonymous to that of the strawberry fields that sprawl all over the valley. The benign and temperate climate plus the soil makes it ideal for planting strawberries. The season is said to be during the summer times (in time for the summer afficionados of the lowlands). You may buy it at about more or less P70-P100 range. You may even pick up your own strawberry at the fields itself with an additional price. So much for touristy experience.

La Trinidad is also a great place to start your mountain sojourn towards Mt. Pulag, Mt.Data, Sagada, Bontoc and Banawe which are connected by Halsema Highway, the highest road in the country. The town also has several affordable inns and pension houses that has both warm and cold showers in their bathrooms.
