The commuter’s guide to airports is back, and now on into Visayas’ main hub, Mactan-Cebu International Airport.

Considered as the second international gateway by most Filipinos and travelers alike, Mactan-Cebu International Airport is located some more or less 20 kilometers away from downtown Cebu City, but sits in metropolitan urban sprawl of today’s Queen City of the South. Cebu is noted for its increase in tourism arrivals, beaches, fiestas and the so-called urban-rural tropical island living that has been attracting thousands of visitors.

Mactan Airport was opened sometime during the Marcos era, when the old Lahug Airport in mainland Cebu (now Asiatown IT Park) couldn’t be expanded anymore. The American military forces constructed the said airport as a secondary hub for Clark Air Base, after its utilization it was used by the public.

Asian Spirit Flies to Iloilo Starting mid-October

Mayor Jerry P. Treñas of Iloilo City has disclosed that there would be an additional flight to and from Iloilo and Manila starting in the middle of October. He mentioned that Asian Spirit will be flying Manila and Iloilo starting October 15 with a late afternoon flight from Manila and going back at early evening.

Terminal Fees of New Iloilo and Bacolod Airports Increase This Month

The New Airports in Iloilo and Bacolod-Silay will be increasing their terminal fees starting September 22 of this year. From the original PhP 30, it will now be increased into PhP200.00.

Barely several months after the opening of the new Iloilo Airport in June 2007, the City of Smiles has also opened the newest gateway to Sugarlandia of the Philippines itself. In January 2008, the old Singcang Airport in Bacolod City has ceased operations and transfered to the new facility about 20 kilometers away from the Bacolod, located in Hacienda Bagtic in the City of Silay. How to Get in or Out of the New Iloilo Airport (Updated)

Inaugurated last June 13, 2007, the old Mandurriao airport of Iloilo was finally decommissioned by the Air Transportation Office and moved to its new facility in the town of Cabatuan, some 20 kilometers away from the old airport. With the promise of economic growth that will bring upon this region, the new Iloilo Airport can take 1 million passengers per year and can accommodate wide-bodied aircraft and currently the 4th busiest airport in the Philippines as according to ATO.
