Dahican Beach: First Sunrise in Paradise

Dahican Beach Surfer
It was my first sunrise after my birthday. I was in Mati City, Davao Oriental Province to accompany my dad for his project in the mountains of the province. That morning, I went to the beach that has been popular to backpackers and surfers alike—Dahican Beach. For surfers, it’s an alternative to Siargao Island. For travelers, it’s a paradise so close to this laidback city.

Dahican Beach
Dahican Beach is in the eastern part of Mati City, the capital of Davao Oriental Province (3-4 hour bus ride away from Davao City). It is 15 minutes away from downtown through rented motorcycle or habal-habal. For 25 pesos (or P50 if you want to leave immediately), you can go to the beach whether you’re all alone, have reservation on one of the resorts there, or just with your tent.

Footprints in the sand…and surf
I noticed that there was still a little tourism development in the beach—making it still a bit virginal. By the time I went there, it is a perfect day for sunrise—with clear blue skies and waters of the Pacific pounding the sands with surf. It is indeed a paradise—a perfect getaway from the mad crowd of civilization—that includes the internet and social media.

The sunrise in Dahican was a perfect birthday gift. It somehow symbolizes a new day has come, a new year of my life. It was brilliant, beautiful, and a peaceful morning. Like there is peace in my mind, my heart, and my soul. This is the positive effect of Dahican to me for that short visit.

Surf’s Up!
However, my time was short. I have to leave, thinking that I’ll come back in the near future, at least to relax on its bosom.
