Toledo City, Cebu
I never got it to the 2:45 PM trip from Toledo City in Cebu to San Carlos City in Negros Occidental. I’ve got late leaving Cebu City due to some obligations at the Museum. So I waited here in the port in which we’re going to depart at around 5PM for Negros. I wonder if there are still buses plying Don Salvador at that time? Or else, I have no choice but to take the longer route, grueling 5 hour trip to Bacolod City via Escalante-Cadiz area. Whoa!

Rough Waters of Hilutangan Channel, Cebu during Habagat Season
It was definitely my first boat ride in Cebu and my first time meeting some strangers that would become my ultimate barkada in the Queen City. A balikbayan forumer came home and promised a treat that the forumers based in Cebu would never forget. Island hopping from Mactan Island to Olango Island and back and hitting the big waves of the southerly wind also known in the Philippines as habagat.

NAIA Terminal 2
If NAIA Terminal 3 was difficult to access through public transportation, NAIA’s Terminal 2 (also known as the Centennial Airport) and Terminal 1 (old NAIA International Airport) are otherwise, very very accessible…in fact, it is s0 intertwined directly with Metro Manila’s busiest thoroughfare…EDSA! In spirit of helping the Filipino people and foreigners alike, I would like to share my knowledge (limited though) on how to get in and out of NAIA Terminals 1 & 2 without taking the cab or making hatid-sundo (bring-fetch) with your friends or loved ones.

August 21, 1983 – Twenty-six years ago in the tarmac of then-newly built Manila International Airport Terminal (now NAIA Terminal-1), blood was spilt in Philippine soil. Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. was shot dead by unknown assailants, probably that of the presidency of the dictator Ferdinand Marcos. The death of the opposition leader shook the Philippine consciousness that led to the dismantling of twenty years of oppressive rule that became one of the world’s most remarkable and inspiring People Power revolt of 1986.

Tourist Buses Not Allowed at Iloilo City? (A Commentary)

Not so long ago, Iloilo City experienced surges of tourists flocking in to see it’s premiere festival: Dinagyang. However this is just once in a year…and the festival period of the city goes from 2nd week of January until mid-February, with Paraw Regatta closing the season. I laud the efforts of the City Tourism Office, the private sector and also DOT for the tireless effort in promoting Iloilo City as a tourist destination, despite Typhoon Frank and lack of attractions and amenities within the city.
Now, the city is also looking for a year round income-generator based on tourism. More tourists means more business. More business means brisker economy. Brisker economy means more jobs. More jobs in return makes one city livable. This simple domino effect understood by many policy makers, is part of what our capitalist world does. But what if one’s myopic interpretation of an ordinance may create a stumbling block for the economic take-off of the city? Read the rest of this entry »
